FAQ
PYUSD or USDC — which is safer?
Safety gap is small. PYUSD is issued by Paxos NY trust (NYDFS-regulated); USDC by Circle (NYDFS BitLicense + multi-state MTL). Both 100% T-Bills + cash + monthly audits. Differences: 1) USDC circulation is 30x bigger = stronger liquidity; 2) USDC regulation is more distributed (NY + states + EU); 3) PYUSD benefits from PayPal's backend but PayPal itself isn't the regulated entity.
Is PYUSD good for USDT card topup?
Not recommended today. Mainstream USDT cards (MPCard / Bybit Card / Crypto.com Visa) almost none support direct PYUSD topup. If you hold PYUSD and want to topup, swap to USDT / USDC first (one extra 0.1-0.3% slippage step). Holding USDC / USDT directly is more efficient.
What's the real point of PayPal's PYUSD integration?
Mostly for US retail users. 1) PayPal / Venmo users send/receive PYUSD in-app; 2) Venmo cross-border remittance via PYUSD; 3) PayPal merchants accept PYUSD. But crypto-native users prefer USDC / USDT direct on-chain, not via PayPal platform.
What's the advantage of PYUSD on Solana vs Ethereum?
2024-05 PYUSD launched on Solana, dropping gas to <$0.001/tx. This is critical for PYUSD's retail payment use case (PayPal/Venmo users). But crypto-native deep integrations (DeFi / OTC) remain more mature on Ethereum.
Will PYUSD replace USDC?
Very unlikely short-to-mid term. USDC circulation is 30x bigger than PYUSD, deeply integrated across DeFi + major exchange quoting. PYUSD's advantage is PayPal's user base (~400M active accounts) + brand trust. PYUSD will more likely grow retail payment use cases; USDC remains dominant in crypto-native. Both coexist.
